This study aimed to determine factors influencing child protection competence of social workers in social service institutions providing child protection services in Hanoi, Vietnam and measure the influence of these factors on their child protection competence. A field survey was conducted with 249 social workers who are providing child protection services, using a semi-structured questionnaire as a research instrument to collect data, however, there were 242 social workers were qualified for the participation in the research due to their full filling in the questionnaires.

This paper reflects on the impact of The Global Agenda (GA) process and focuses on its relevance for social work practitioners and educators in the United Kingdom (UK). It asks, is there a global social work profession? The paper explores three key elements. Firstly, to what extent is it possible to view the diversity of social work under the differing national frameworks, as a coherent, single professional identity?

The Global Agenda for Social Work and Social Development (GA) aims at strengthening the social work profession by building linkages between global challenges and local responses. Against the neoliberal conservative policy transformation in the last two decades, this article focuses on the effects of neoliberal policies on social work education and practice in Turkey and discusses the relevance and operationalisation of the Global Agenda in Turkish context.

Cyprus is a nation of great history, old and new, that makes up a controversial and often stressful environment in which social work is practiced. The intent of this paper is to highlight the Cypriot context and discuss how the Global Agenda is integrated in it.

This article explores the foundation of a joint research project between social work (SW) colleagues at Hope Africa University in Burundi, and Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom (UK). This webinar, hosted by the U.S. Government’s Advancing Protection and Care for Children in Adversity (APCCA) secretariat and Data for Impact, highlighted the critical role of the social service workforce, exploring and identifying the strengths and limitations of different approaches to strengthen the workforce across Armenia, Cambodia and Rwanda.

In 2016-2020, Terre des hommes-Lausanne Foundation (Tdh) and King’s College London (KCL) conducted the research “Understanding child marriage amongst Syrian Refugee Communities in Jordan and Lebanon”.

After consulting with a group of relevant stakeholders, Tdh/KCL identified four ways to share the research findings, including a brief operational guidance for child marriage case management, highlighting findings that are relevant to caseworkers working with Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, as well as their supervisors.

Today, social workers are found in many communities and institutional environments, including social service agencies, child care agencies, schools, hospitals, mental health programs, substance abusers, courts, prisons worldwide. Regardless of where they practice, to be effective social work practitioners, they share some unique professional needs. Every child without distinction by gender or any other characteristic has the right to grow up free from violence, exploitation, abuse, neglect and harmful practices. This right is embedded in the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) and multiple Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) targets.

The Maghreb (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco (including Western Sahara), Tunisia) has high rates of child maltreatment and child abandonment, leading to high rates of child institutionalisation. This review aims to provide an estimate of the prevalence of children in institutions in the countries of the Maghreb and to compare and contrast the child protection systems in the region. Using a scoping review approach, we identified 44 relevant studies from databases including Academic Search Premiere, Africa-Wide Information, Policy file Index, Google, and Google Scholar.

This article draws on a series of international research-focused webinars with social workers in 2022. They were designed to examine the rethinking of professional values during the pandemic in the context of other global crises, particularly the climate emergency. Participants readily shared ethical issues relating to self-care, digital working and reduced bureaucracy during the pandemic and implications for future practice.
