There are many ways to engage with the Alliance and members from around the globe throughout the year. The Alliance hosts many events as well as shares information on events taking place globally that are of interest to the social service workforce.
The Alliance hosts an Annual Symposium to bring attention to the need for planning, developing and supporting the social service workforce. This year's event, titled The social service workforce in and beyond the pandemic: A global conversation on adaptation, innovation and the fight for social justice, will be co-hosted with Children and Families Across Borders on September 15. The event will take place virtually and presents a unique opportunity for social service practitioners, experts and policy makers from around the world to come together to discuss the biggest issues facing the social service workforce today, including the impact of the pandemic on the social service workforce as well as on the role of the social service workforce in social justice.
Social Service Workforce Week
Every year, the Global Social Service Workforce Alliance hosts Social Service Workforce Week. The week serves as an opportunity for advocates to bring attention to and build support for the social service workforce as well as raise awareness about promising workforce strengthening efforts supported by stakeholders around the world. Organized around daily themes focused on areas of practice, the week allows Alliance members and the public to engage in a dynamic platform of information exchange and advocacy through various forms of social media. The 7th annual Social Service Workforce Week was celebrated October 26-30, 2020. The theme highlighted the many essential roles of the social service workforce in the lives of individuals, families and communities. The week included daily blogs, worker profiles, new resources and a webinar. It will also included the release of a new guidance manual on supervision of the social service workforce, developed by the Alliance's Interest Group on Supervision. The Alliance maintains an online calendar of upcoming events relevant to the social service workforce. Members are invited to submit upcoming conference information through the online form for inclusion on this calendar.
World Social Work Day
Every year, World Social Work Day is celebrated the third Tuesday of March, and events are organized throughout the month of March. World Social Work Day is an opportunity for social workers and others in the social service sector to celebrate their achievements as well as to raise awareness and support for the important role that social workers play in the lives of vulnerable families and communities. The day calls attention to the need for further planning, development and support to the profession and social service sector. Read about some of the events held in prior years.
