Learning from Ikibiri and Ubuntu to Decolonise Social Work Research in Higher Education

This article explores the foundation of a joint research project between social work (SW) colleagues at Hope Africa University in Burundi, and Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom (UK). It considers the destructive impact of colonialism on indigenous SW practices in Burundi setting out an argument for decolonisation of the SW curriculum both in Burundi and the UK.

Linkage Case Management and Posthospitalization Outcomes in People With HIV in Tanzania: The Daraja Randomized Clinical Trial

Child marriage case management guideline

In 2016-2020, Terre des hommes-Lausanne Foundation (Tdh) and King’s College London (KCL) conducted the research “Understanding child marriage amongst Syrian Refugee Communities in Jordan and Lebanon”.

After consulting with a group of relevant stakeholders, Tdh/KCL identified four ways to share the research findings, including a brief operational guidance for child marriage case management, highlighting findings that are relevant to caseworkers working with Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon, as well as their supervisors.

Using a systems perspective to examine child protection systems and practice: A scoping review on child abandonment and institutionalisation in the Maghreb

The Maghreb (Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco (including Western Sahara), Tunisia) has high rates of child maltreatment and child abandonment, leading to high rates of child institutionalisation. This review aims to provide an estimate of the prevalence of children in institutions in the countries of the Maghreb and to compare and contrast the child protection systems in the region. Using a scoping review approach, we identified 44 relevant studies from databases including Academic Search Premiere, Africa-Wide Information, Policy file Index, Google, and Google Scholar.

Social work beyond the pandemic: Exploring social work values for a new eco-social world

This article draws on a series of international research-focused webinars with social workers in 2022. They were designed to examine the rethinking of professional values during the pandemic in the context of other global crises, particularly the climate emergency. This Children’s Services Reform Research study is a Scotland-based research study which was undertaken by CELCIS, the Centre for Excellence for Children’s Care and Protection.

CELCIS was asked by the Scottish Government in to carry out a research study to improve the understanding of current Children’s Services structures and delivery models in Scotland and how services can best support the needs of children, young people and their families.
