Qualitative Assessment Approaches for the Protection of Children with Disabilities Within Humanitarian Contexts

Children with disabilities are particularly vulnerable in humanitarian settings, yet they are often not able to access the services and protection they need. While multiple factors create these barriers, a major cause is how data about children with disabilities is collected and mapped. Data collection processes often exclude or underrepresent the views of children with disabilities and thier caretakers.

Social Work and Artificial Intelligence: Towards the Electronic Social Work Field of Specialisation

The utilisation of artificial intelligence and other technologies in social work cast doubt on the digital acumen of social workers. This paper sought to contribute to the development of electronic social work popularly known as e-social work. Integrative literature review was adopted as the methodology for this paper. The paper has found that there is a need for the development of the field of electronic social work in order to enable the safe and ethical use of artificial intelligence in practise. Building Climate Change Into Care Reform in Eastern and Southern Africa

Climate change involves rising global temperatures as a result of greenhouse gas emissions, primarily caused by the burning of fossil fuels. Evidence shows that climate change is influencing weather patterns across the world, including in Eastern and Southern Africa, negatively affecting household livelihoods and exposing families to climate-related emergencies, such as floods, droughts and heatwaves. As access to key resources diminishes, climate change is also exacerbating conflict and tensions.

The Importance of Integrating Family Strengthening, Reunification, Case Management and Workforce Strengthening

Supporting families at risk of separation and reunifying families who have been separated are at the core of Changing the Way We Care's work. International social work research: transfer of knowledge or promotion of dialogue beyond borders?

Social work has developed unevenly within Europe and globally, with differences in terms of its recognition, training, professionalisation and academisation. This is mirrored in an unbalance in reciprocal influence, particularly vis-a-vis knowledge production, and the origin of tensions between importing/exporting ‘ready-made’ ideas from stronger social work communities and efforts towards indigenisation and locally rooted knowledge production.

Work Motivation of Social Workers in the Context of Management Innovations

In the current turbulent and constantly changing conditions, there is a growing tendency to develop human resource activities through implementing managerial innovations. The present paper addresses social workers’ work motivation in Slovakia. Family for Every Child's new Participatory Evaluation Toolkit places the knowledge and experience of local Civil Society Orangisations (CSOs) at its centre. It offers an alternative to traditional evaluation dynamics, by drawing on the strength of local solutions. 

Guidance and tools for participatory monitoring, evaluation and learning (PMEL) have been developed to support local CSOs to build evidence of their promising practices, in a way that works for them, and contributes to the body of effective and transformative practice within the children’s rights sector.

The Ubuntu Practitioner: Social Work Perspectives

In most communities and countries in sub-Saharan Africa, ubuntu has been and is being practiced as part of African ethics. In a significant number of literature, African ethics is described as a set of values distinctively associated with largely black African people residing in sub-Saharan Africa. These values are based on ethical beliefs, moral judgements, or ideas such as prioritising communal relationships, rather than individualism prevalent in the West.

Global social work working conditions and wellbeing

This research explores the working conditions of social workers around the globe, using a mixed-methods approach. A survey of working conditions and wellbeing was distributed to social workers via email and social media. Results subsequently informed the interview schedule for individual semi-structured interviews with social work leaders from across the world. Results confirm that social workers have among the most difficult working conditions of all equivalent professions, with detrimental effects on services for individuals and communities due to burnout and retention.
